La Belle Epoque

A Paris-based female disco trio, La Belle Epoque scored a few club hits during the late '70s. Their first and biggest was 1977's "Miss Broadway," a Top 30 hit on the R&B charts, and they also had some success with the extended "Disco Sound" medley, which incorporated a version of Los Bravos' '60s pop hit "Black Is Black." Their first album, the soul/Euro-disco hybrid Miss Broadway, was also released in 1977. It was followed a year later by the more synth-driven Bamalama, whose title track was another long medley featuring disco interpretations of rock oldies. - Steve Huey

Belle Epoque
Late 1970's European disco favourites. The singles aren't worth it - go for the full length versions on the LP's. Listen for "Disco sound / Black is black / Why don't you lay down" on the whole of the b-side of "Miss Broadway".
The LP "Bamalama" is more heavily synthesizer and electro fans might like "Taste of destruction". Belle Epoque were distributed by Atlantic in the US.

Black is black
I want my baby back
It's grey
it's grey
Since she went a-way o - o

What can I do
'Cause I
I'm feeling blue
If I had my way
She'd be back today
But she don't intend
To see me a-gain o - o

What can I do
'Cause I
I'm feeling blue
I can't choose

It's too much to lose
My love's too strong
May be if she
Would come back to me
Then it can't go wrong

Black is black
. . .

What can I do
'Cause I
I'm feeling blue
'Cause I
I'm feeling blue

You blow your mind using cocaine
Let me blow mine using this big chain

Drugs are your scene
violence is mine
Nothing is clean
so we broke the line

Holding this chain may lock insaine
While I've got beer running through my veins

See how my chain flies in the air
Honey you're looking at your nightmare.
