More is the soundtrack from an obscure European art film, but hopefully that hasn't prevented you from picking up one of Floyd's more introspective and poetic albums. It opens rather impressionistically with bird songs and ambient field sounds, which quickly leads into the organ based song of "Cirrus Minor."
"The Nile Song" is one of those psychedelic numbers very reminiscent of the times. The theme recalls a Heavy Metal-like fantasy, having all the cool psych hallmarks: sludgy instrumentals, crazed vocals, and acid drenched, fuzz guitar. "The Crying Song" could be a precursor to "Fearless" off their Meddle album.
"Up The Khyber" is one of their jazzier, trippy excursions with jazz organ, manic drumming, and a little studio wizardry. Both "Green is the Color" and the classic, "Cymbaline" both penned by Waters offers soft and lilting pastoral ruminations, with Waters' trademark soft, reflective vocals.
"Main Theme" sounds like something off Ummagumma due to its experimental, avant-garde space rock nature. And the more blues-tinged, "More Blues" should appeal to those that enjoy Dave Gilmour's soulful guitar work. There is a bit of filler, mostly instrumental pieces that add to the mood of the album, rather than detract from anything. Perhaps overlooked in Pink Floyd's oeuvre, More, achieves again the Floydian blending of space rock, experimental psych, introspective songwriting, and sci-fi pathos.
