CLOSTERKELLER is the main representative of so-called "atmospheric rock" if you think of Polish music scene.
They began they musical career in 1988 by playing rather heavy sounds under the banner of the British New Wave. They started with performances at numerous young band competitions, initially without achieving any bigger triumphs but their music evolved and another 1989 year became very important for CLOSTERKELLER. This year they won all the biggest music competitions in Poland.
During 12 years of their activity, the band gained a designation of cult formation of Polish independent (and not only independent!) scene.
The circle of CLOSTERKELLER fans is very wide. Both older and younger listeners appreciate their music: you can see people preferring metal and gothic rock as well as rock and pop music fans. Surely, stylistic diversity of their songs caused it. Since their debut their music has evolved from sick cold wave sounds dalliance with heavy metal to psychedelic and a little bit dizzy pop rock with elements of gothic rock and techno.
Despite of this multiplicity CLOSTERKELLER has its own easily distinguishable characteristic style and still the band stands out of the first class of Polish rock. For many years they have been leaders in the first ranks of Polish rock bands, even if their music is more difficult and more ambitious and their strongest point are dark and mystical songs ("Violette"," A ona, ona", "Cisza w jej domu", "Grzech").
CLOSTERKELLER has performed many times on the biggest scenes in Poland, also supporting such stars as Jethro Tull, Cocteau Twins, Clan Of Xymox or Paradise Lost.

Main part in CLOSTERKELLER plays its vocalist, Anja Orthodox, one of the most characteristic and interesting personalities of Polish music scene. Not only her deep, beautiful voice, original interpretations of texts and music, characteristic style of singing but also her strong personality, in private life as well (which often causes opinions such as "controversial") make her one of the most appreciable artists. She is also an author of unusual, very poetic but often spicy lyrics and it makes her belong to the group of the most brilliant poets of Polish rock.

During the history of CLOSTERKELLER, some musicians replaced the others and now CLOSTERKELLER are:

Anja Orthodox - vocals,
Michal Rollinger - keyboards,
Gerard Klawe - one of the best drummers of younger generation,
Freddie - guitar,
Pucek - bass guitar.

CLOSTERKELLER is also a great band when playing alive. Their concerts are fantastic performances - a mixture of spontaneous rock show, poetic atmosphere and mystical ritual (which also makes them close to gothic rock bands). Musical perfection of performance and playing their instruments, brilliant compositions and arrangements and - after all - beautiful music makes their concerts unforgettable experiences!
