All King Crimson fans should know about David Cross, as he was once the violinist and keyboardist in the band in the early 70's. He played on many of the classic King Crimson albums such as "Lark's Tongue in Aspic", "Starless and Bible Black" and "Red".

On this solo album from 1994 you can hear many reminiscences to King Crimson. David's electric violin is always in the forefront of the music without being dominating: swirling, floating and sometimes it hits you right in the face.

Five tracks are studio recordings, and four are recorded live at Floz Club, Berlin, October 1993.

Whenever you're buying a David Cross album you'll never get disappointed. This album is as highly recommended as any other David Cross release is.

Сергей Дементьев : Всем любителям арт рока знакома группа, ставшая живой легендой еще при нынешнем полном творческом бытие - King Crimson. И, несомненно, лучшими альбомами этой замечательной банды является трилогия 70х - Larks Tongues in Aspic, Starless & Bible Black и Red. Участником всех этих, не побоюсь этого слова, шедевров, был отличный скрипач David Cross. Теперь же перед Вами его 3-й сольник - Testing to Destruction 1994 года. Что же, любитель ли Вы творчества старой группы музыканта, или просто ценитель прога и вообще всей хорошей музыки, в любом случае, Вы нашли то, что Вам надо! На альбоме есть 4 песни, поет их отменный вокалист John Dillon, которого мы встречаем и на предыдущем альбоме Кросса - The Big Picture'92г. Некоторые считают его вокал сходным с голосом John'a Wetton'a (так же пос- ледний на сегодня диск Crossa'a - Exiles'97, UK, Steve Hackett, etc), певшего, кстати, на вышеуказанных мегаальбомах King Crimson, но мне так не кажется. Сильный, приятный голос под стать напористой музыке, поражающей разнообразием аранжировок ( сторонники музыкальной полифонии не будут разочарованны: тут есть и скрипка, и клавишные, и басс, и гитара, ударные) и при этом очень красивой. Воистину, именно его сольные альбомы можно считать развитием концепции лучших дисков Кримсонов 70-х гг. Но это не плагиат и пережевывание прошлого, это современно звучащие, сложные, фирменные Cross'овские находки, полные виртуозных, красивых композиций! Отдельное место, это его альбом - продолжение Crimson'a 70х - Exiles, но к нему мы еще придем. В любом случае, на мой взгляд, это намного более интересная (просто несравнимо!) музыка, чем King Crimson 80-х. Но вернемся к альбому. Открывают CD две быстрые и напористые, типично Cross'овские Learning Curve и Calаmity. Потом мы имеем дело с инструменталкой, но на 4-м трэке вновь встречаем вокал. Далее идут несколько авангардные, но ладно скраивающие и подчеркивающие общее настроение диска, трэки. Закрывает же альбом потрясающая, имеющая некий привкус этники, Abo. По сравнению с остальными 3мя песнями, это достаточно мягкая композиция, отличный финал настоящего шедевра!
