Irond Ltd.

Our good friends SHAMAN have changed their name. According to Jonne Jarvela, the vocalist, guitarist and the main driving force behind the band, the name changes were due to slight change of musical and lyrical direction, and the fact that the new band of Brazilian vocalist Andre Matos (ex-ANGRA) is also called SHAMAN.
The new name of Jonne's band is KORPIKLAANI, which could be translated to English as "Forest Clan".
KORPIKLAANI has recently signed a four-album deal with NAPALM Records and is preparing to unleash their first opus "Spirit Of The Forest" during the [European] autumn this year.
GO JONNE!!!
SHAMAN - "Shamaniac"

"That's the music!
That's the spirit!
Not like the rest of your "bam-bam" stuff:"
My mum.
***
Hell yeah, my mum is right again (should've listened to her, when I was little)!
Frankly speaking, I've heard a few samples of Shaman, before I get the album, but, trust me, MP3s are nothing to compare to the actual CD! But right from the start:
Jonne Jarvela, the leader and the main driving force behind Finnish Shaman, might be more familiar to most of you as a guest musician on Finntroll's "Jaktens Tid". Apparently Jonne's insane "yoik" brought a great effort to make "Jaktens Tid" what it is - the one of the most original Heavy Metal albums ever. And right now we have a chance to know, what does this Finn do between slaying the unworthy humans and drinking "Krigsmjod".
Jonne does Music. If you expect "Shamaniac" to be another Finntroll's clone - you're sadly mistaken. Besides a very light (Very Light!) touch of Black Metal, Shaman creates a high quality Folk music, totally original and totally irresistible. There's basically nothing that you can compare this album to. I could say, it reminds of Amorphis' "Elegy", if "Shamaniac" wasn't way more melodic and "folkish".
The separate chapter is Jonne's voice. Gosh, this guy does amazing things with his throat! You won't believe, how nice does it feel to hear somebody who actually SINGS! Jonne obviously has a very strong feel of the North and it's visible throughout the album.
"Shamaniac" consists of 7 tracks, including 17 minute long "Mu Sieddi Beales Mun Gottan" ("I Kill For My Seita"; the question is: What's "Seita"?). But don't be frightened by the length of the song - it's separated in 3 parts, so you hardly even notice those 17 minutes.
Another one, "Sugadit" ("The Swing Of The Waves"), reminds of a nice Summer evening somewhere in the Northern regions of Europe, when the sun sets behind the pine forest, the sky glows red, purple and blue, and everything is calm and quiet. I just can't help myself picturing this kind of landscape while listening to this song. Probably have to add here, that I never heard a Metal band, that would sound more in touch with Mother Nature than Jonne and his fellas.
The rest of the tracks are pretty multisided. Some are funny, some are mellow and dreamy. Some have a feel of Hard Rock, some - a taste of Black Metal. But the presence of different styles inside Shaman's music doesn't create a mess. Everything is well-balanced and fits perfectly into the whole picture. I won't describe "Shamaniac" track by track - make it a pleasant surprise for you, when you'll finally buy it.
And buy it you SHOULD! Pretty much anyone, whose musical imagination goes beyond the borders of Cannibal Corpse or Pungent Stench, will fall in love with "Shamaniac". I probably could name a couple of weak points (I just have to criticise something), but, to tell the truth, I don't want to. The bottom line is - Shaman is a great band and "Shamaniac" is the great album. Steal, cheat, kill, but get it! Tell you, in five years you could say: "I've been a fan of these guys from the beginning!".
10/10
You go Jonne!
P.S. The Digipack edition has a video, where Jonne looks like Jon Bon Jovi in "Blaze Of Glory"!
